We live in a very different world today from our parents. Things change so quickly. Using the wrong tactics on the battlefield is going to get you killed!

Make no mistake you are in a battle for a shrinking dollar.

The customer has more choices than they have money! To have them cheerfully part with that money, you need something very powerful - a tribe.

Back in the day this was called a fan base. BUILD THE TRIBE Lead The Tribe is part journey and part acute observation.

• I watched one woman build a blog for years. She had a loving and loyal tribe. She wrote a book and it instantly became a bestseller.
• There was one guy who tried to get a job at Facebook, and they told him he was not good enough. He went on to build a BIG ASS TRIBE of 400 million, and a few years later he sold that company to Facebook for $19 Billion.
• Tom Leykis is not going to win many friends at a woman's movement convention. His antics and rants have pissed off many people, but they have also won him a very loyal tribe that has helped him earn millions for decades.
• One long time member of a large digital tribe took a small concept and built a product that did so well he quit his job six weeks later for his new six-figure job.

I could go on and on.

The examples of building a tribe or becoming a valued member of a tribe are all over the place. They all have one thing in common.

You must work hard being a builder or member of the tribe to get their affection.

The guy who quit his job told me that he instantly knew if someone was new by the way they answered questions. He said it with a sense of pride, because those were his people!

Tribes have their lingo, culture, rules and digital courts of judgements. Some people are sentenced to expulsion their first day! Not knowing the rules is not going to save you! The beauty of building a tribe is you can create culture, which is a very powerful tool to have in your life.

You must build the tribe or be a big contributor to the tribe before you lead it!

I know many internet marketers will chuckle at that declaration.

To them, I would say the Google Zoo de-indexed websites and worked hard in a constant grind for finding tribes, infiltrating them and creating a product for them. Tom Leykis changed jobs and took his tribe with him! Even with a large list, it is not the same as having a tribe.

There are some internet marketers who are stunningly successful, but most barely make it.

In a world of digital transparency, it is going to become harder and harder to -fake it to make it. You need a pocket full of authentic. Anyone can dox anyone. Some people will not do business with you or hire you if you do not have a social media profile! So the sooner you start building your digital footprint, the better!

Let me tell you this now- tribe building takes time. But, once you build one, you have them for life.
